What To Expect

Dwejra Bay
Dwejra, with its dramatic coastal formations and sea spilling over the rocks, is a magical attraction. Here you can swim in the spectacular deep sea of the bay, in the calm shallows of the inland sea or in the foamy waters around the Blue Hole – one of Gozo’s top dive-sites.

Dwejra is also home of the Fungus Rock or, as it is locally known, “Il-Ġebla tal-Ġeneral”, General’s Rock. It is so called in remembrance of the Italian General who centuries ago fell to his death while supervising quarrying in the area. History tells us that a special plant believed to have medicinal and healing properties used to grow on Fungus Rock and because of this the Rock used to be heavily guarded during the era of the Knights of Malta. Anyone caught stealing the crop was sentenced to death or to a life rowing the Knights’ galleys. The crop was picked and brought to the mainland using a primitive system of baskets and pulleys.

Xwejni Salt Pans
On the north coast of Gozo, just past Qbajjar Bay west of Marsalforn, the coast is characterised by a chequerboard of rock-cut saltpans protruding into the sea. These 350-year-old salt pans, which stretch about 3km along the coast, are more than just scenic. They are part of the centuries-old Gozitan tradition of Sea-Salt production that has been passed down within certain families for many generations. During the summer months, locals can still be seen scraping up the crystals of salt. Once collected, the salt is stored and processed in the caves that have been carved into the coastal rock.

Ramla Bay
This is Gozo’s, and arguably Malta’s, best beach. A wide stretch of red sand, it is often referred to locally as “Ramla il-Ħamra” – the Red Sandy Beach! Ramla is a wonderful place to swim, snorkel and chill out in the sun.

The area around the beach is wonderfully undeveloped, although there are a couple of cafes and a stall set back from the beach. The sand dunes are protected and the valley leading down to the bay is green and fertile. The terraced walls built by the farmers give the valley an appearance of a quilt when viewed from surrounding high ground.

There is myth and history here too. Roman remains lie beneath the sands and Ramla Bay is reached from ix-Xagħra, on one of the hills overlooking the valley, or from the village of in-Nadur.

Marsalforn
Marsalforn is one of the most popular resort on the Island. In summer it throbs with life as hundreds of Gozitan and Maltese families move in to spend the summer at the coast and foreign visitors arrive for a revitalising dose of sun and sea.

A beach of sand and small pebbles is backed by a promenade which runs right round the head of the bay, providing a pleasant place to stroll at all times of year and a traditional summer evening gathering place for local families and visitors alike.

Ghasri
Ghasri Valley, or Wied il-Ghasri is a breathtaking, narrow creek that seems right out of a postcard. Ghasri Valley’s narrow cove is approximately 300 metres long with a winding inlet and rugged, impressive high cliffs on both sides and about 100 steps down.

Inland Sea
The Inland Sea, sometimes called Qawra in Maltese and also known as Dwejra, is a lagoon of seawater on the island of Gozo linked to the Mediterranean Sea through an opening formed by a narrow natural arch.

It was probably formed where a geological fault in the limestone had created a sea cave and the roof then collapsed.

Xlendi Beach, Cliff and Caves
Ix-Xlendi Bay is a popular swimming, snorkelling and diving spot. There is a small sandy beach leading into shallow waters perfect for young and old, while for the more adventurous it is deslightful to swim and snorkel in deeper water off the long stretch of rocks bordering the beach.

Because of its reef formations, ix-Xlendi is an ideal diving site, even for beginners. This is also a typical Gozitan fishing village and well-served with good restaurants, bars and hotels.

Lots of fun on the quads
mikej547, 16-09-2022
The quad bikes were a lot of fun and gave us a chance to explore all of Gozo. Getting to the part where you were actually on the quads was not a highlight. We ended up taking the.fast ferry back to Valletta which was much more pleasant.. They should offer this as an option and I think people would have a better experience.
You've gotta book this!

The day was an awesome day but wasn't without its hiccups. A few quad bike reliability issues slowed us down in the morning. But we overcame them and had a fantastic day riding arround Gozo. We would recommend this experience to everyone. Loved it
Best day of our holiday.

Great way to view Gozo (even in the rain!)

Had a great day with Michael our guide. He gave good clear instructions and great information at all the stops, and was checking in on everyone throughout the ride to make sure we were all happy. The day was well planned with hotel pick up, a small group ferry there and back, and pick up from the ferry to the quad bike base. And a 3 course lunch- which was basic hot food but tasty and catered to vegetarians too! There’s a few things/experiences you can pay extra for but all only a few euros each such as going on a small boat ride at the inland sea which are all worth a go.

Despite getting throughly drenched towards the end we had a great trip!- would recommend as a more interesting way to tour the island than the usual bus/jeep route
Excellent

We went on the full day quad bike tour. It was guided by a Canadian (sorry, we forgot your name!) and Mark. We are always hesitant about "full day" trips, but this really was! We drove about 50km around Gozo spread out over 6 hours. We had many stop overs at scenic places which were amazing. The two guides were knowledgeable and really nice and fun. €115 might seem like a lot of money, but it was worth every penny (cent!)
